What is Endo-Venous Laser Therapy (EVLT) ?
Using a VenaCure system, we fix the problem at the source by delivering just the right wavelength of laser energy to just the right tissue, causing the incompetent vein to close while your body automatically routes the blood to other healthy veins. Simply put, a laser is a highly concentrated beam of light that targets the vein with extreme precision so as not to affect the surrounding tissue. Unlike surgery, the EVLT procedure does not require a great deal of preparation, or a general anesthetic or a lengthy recovery period. It is a minimally invasive meaning the entry point through which the laser fiber is inserted is extremely small, not even requiring stitches or resulting in scars. There is really no recovery to speak of and you will be able to return to full normal activity with minimal discomfort. The risk of infection is extremely low.
In clinical trials this treatment has proved to be 97% effective - an outstanding record of success. Therefore, you should experience no recurrence in the veins that have been treated. Follow-up procedures may be desired to obtain optimal aesthetic results.
How Venous Reflux Occurs
- Vein valves fail
- Reflux and poor drainage of venous blood result
- Column of blood causes pressure to build up in leg veins
- Increased pressure may cause surface veins to become varicose
