Sclerotherapy is a technique that involves injecting a vein with a small quantity of a drug called sclerosing solution.
A very fine disposable needle is used to get the solution into the lumen of the vein. The sclerosing solution affects
the lining of the vein causing it to collapse and eventually dissolve.
Special compression support stockings are essential to be worn after the procedure. The compression stockings are very
important for continuous pressure in order to keep the injected veins flat and to allow the solution to stay in the lumen
of the vein. Sclerotherapy is done in the office and it allows the patient to walk and to continue with normal activities
after the procedure.
The number of treatments depends on the type and the extent of the veins involved. Each session lasts 20-30 minutes in the
interval of 4-6 weeks. The total number of sessions may vary from a minimum of 2 to a total of 4-6 treatments.
